Walking the (green) talk.
It’s an intrinsic part of our design process to look for ways to include sustainable materials in our work, and to re-use or up-cycle old building materials.
Our own studio on Beaufort Street in Inglewood WA is an example of this. We have renovated an old shopfront and adjoining house and in doing so have extended it’s life for another few decades.
During the renovation, we carefully removed parts of the original construction and re-used them. An example being the jarrah ceiling joists which were removed to allow us to create a large, open volume in the original house, featuring ranked, plywood ceilings. These old ceiling timbers were used to construct the modern timber fence and gate on the main street.
This is a great feature to the property now, and generates some interesting conversations with the neighbours and gives us the opportunity to discuss the history of the property.
